Week 3 – July 17th – The featured artist is saxophonist, John Bush, along with members of his quintet. This show is a tribute to the late jazz great, saxophonist John Coltrane.
John Bush’s musical upbringing occurred here in Little Rock in the late 1950s and early 1960s, along with other lovers and students of the genre at that time, including John Stubblefield, James Leary, and Claudine Meyers. While Bush’s contemporaries committed themselves to and pursued professional careers playing jazz music, he took another direction in that he came back to music later in life.
Bush’s aspiration is to uphold the original edict that drove all of the players he grew up with, as well as recognize the same Arkansas jazz traditions and honor the paths taken by musicians like The Original Yellow Jackets, Louis Jordan, Al Hibbler, and Pharaoh Sanders. Bush is dedicated to playing in the same true spirit of those who helped lay the foundations for this rich and beloved genre.

That all changed when he discovered the saxophone and he has been soaring ever since. Currently, Ross is staying busy by touring and also teaching music. Music has taken him all across the country and even into Canada. He has performed and shared the stage with artists such as Kirk Whalum, J. Moss, Nick Colionne, Althea Rene, Karen Clark, Ty Tribbett, Ben Tankard, and many others. Ross has been called to perform the National Anthem twice for the Memphis Grizzlies and has performed on several television stations such as TBN and The Bobby Jones Gospel Show.
Soothing and soulful are the words used to describe Ross’ music. Ross performs a large range of music from smooth jazz, straight ahead jazz, soul, and gospel. His goal is to provide great music that uplifts and inspires the listener.
